  1. Clean your face and remove your makeup EVERY night.

This is such a key step in keeping your skin looking healthy and younger looking as you enter your 30s, 40s, 50s and up. It does not matter if you are a female, or a male clean your face twice a day.

First, your skin is the largest organ that protects your vital organs keeping you alive so treat your skin with love and respect. Your skin is constantly working and renewing throughout the day. Your skin is constantly renewing but when night comes as you sleep your skin can repair damage done during the hours you are awake. The problem is if you go to bed wearing your makeup, you are only making it harder for your skin to recover.

Neglecting to clean at night and remove makeup will lead to all sorts of skin issues, which can include the appearance of enlarged pores, impurities clogging your pores, breakouts, black and white heads, drying of the skin, dullness, un-healthy appearance, accelerates the skin’s aging process with more wrinkles and fine lines. Your skin is not able to recover and regenerate as it needs to.

Get into the habit of cleansing your skin every night and reapplying your products. If your tired, do it early in the evening so you can just fall into bed later.

  1. Exfoliation is as important as cleansing.

When you are in your 20s your skin turnover is faster and you need to exfoliate less than someone in their 30s, 40s, 50s and up. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, which only helps unclog pores, helping to prevent breakouts. It also unveils new skin cells for a more glowing, radiant complexion.

How often should you exfoliate? No more than three times a week. Over-exfoliating can have reverse effect by likely creating tiny cracks in the skin barrier increasing the loss of hydration, dry skin, and chronic swelling which accelerates skin aging, by exposing young skin cells to the environment before they mature that leads to more skin damage and aging. It can also cause increased fine lines and thinning for the skin.

Look for a pH balanced cleansing exfoliator that is not overly abrasive. Appropriate exfoliation removes the dead skin cells improving the absorption of your products like serums, face creams, etc. to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes the products more effective.

It’s important that you do not purchase any face or body exfoliation product with plastic microbeads they are a environmental hazard. Plastic microbeads are now in our drinking water, rivers, lakes, ocean’s and our food supply. Many states have band the use plastic microbeads and a push for a nationwide ban click to know more.

There are several new SPFs on the market that contain purely mineral SPFs Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide that reflect UVA, the A stands for aging rays and UVB, the B stands for burning rays away from the skin. In our opinion the best is an SPF that is all mineral and the other better choice is one that contains a mineral and a safe SPF chemical.
